Student Wellness Policies

The Chicago Board of Education recently acknowledged the critical intersection between student health and academic performance when it passed two new important policies:
  • Revised Local School Wellness Policy
  • Healthy Snack and Beverage Policy
The two policies establish an important framework for student wellness, including physical activity, quality PE, nutrition education, healthy food access, and recess.

Both policies align with the requirements for the HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC), making it easier for schools to become "Healthy Schools Certified" as indicated on the CPS Progress Report.

The CPS Office of Student Health and Wellness will support schools in implementing the policies through school assessment, professional development and partner matching.
