Jane Averill Community Reading Day

The Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Action Council (HPKCAC) is organizing a one-day community reading event in our neighborhood public elementary schools on Friday, October 6. The event has been named the Jane Averill Community Reading Day in honor of Jane Averill, a beloved early childhood teacher at Ray School who died last year. The HPKCAC will solicit volunteers from the community to visit Pre-K or Kindergarten classrooms in our public elementary schools and read the book, We All Sing with the Same Voice to small groups of children. The volunteers will then pass out a copy of the book to every child to take home. The volunteers will enjoy a tour of school after the classroom visit. We hope the volunteers will enjoy their visit and want to continue to support the school in the coming year.  Learn more or donate>
